Unicorn Valentine’s Day boxes are ridiculously cute and simple to make

Alice and Lois

Valentine’s Day is almost here, which means it’s time for kids to exchange heartfelt and hilarious little Valentines to each other at school. While you can buy a pre-made Valentine’s Day “mailbox” in which your children can collect their little love notes, it’s really fun and simple to make your own V-Day box at home!

If your child loves unicorns (and who the heck doesn’t!?), you can find many simple DIY ideas for unicorn-themed Valentine’s Day boxes online. Not only is this is affordable, but it will also allow you to recycle many items from around your home. So it’s a good way to show love to your child AND to Mother Earth all at the same time.

Over at Alice and Lois, they create a homemade unicorn-themed Valentine’s Day mailbox with a card box (find directions here). Meanwhile, Artsy Fartsy Mama repurposes an empty cardboard box, gift ribbons and tissue paper (full tutorial here).

As you can see, with just a few simple items (like Mod Podge, paint and paper), you can turn everyday items into a piece of art — one that your kid will want to save long after Valentine’s Day is over.

Looking to make the process even simpler? Then why not just print out a free unicorn template from a site, such as Skip To My Lou? This craft is so simple that older kids can easily DIY without any parental help. All you have to do is find a cardboard box, cut a hole in the top and then print out the unicorn features. With just glue or Mod Podge, your child can easily put the unicorn pieces on the box to make their very own special Valentine’s Day box.

The nice part about these tutorials is that there are so many ways you can personalize this craft. You can use whatever color paint or ribbons you desire, and also add glitter or even glue hearts onto your box.

Another option is to use self-adhesive foam letters to spell out your child’s name or sweet messages like “Love” or “Be My Valentine.”

Get creative this Valentine’s Day!
