On the Oct. 9 episode of “Dancing with the Stars,” celebrity contestant Vanessa Lachey revealed some emotional and personal news. As part of the “Most Memorable Year” episode, Lachey let viewers know that 2017 was an especially difficult one for her, as she underwent emergency surgery when her son, Phoenix Robert, was born 10 weeks early last December.

The mom of three explained that she was on bedrest in the hospital when her water broke. She was only 29 weeks along at the time. She called husband, Nick Lachey, and told him to get to the hospital as soon as possible, because she was being rushed into emergency surgery.

Through tears, Lachey recalls how she felt at the moment before she was about to undergo surgery: “I was on the operating bed, and I looked up, and I didn’t know a single face. And I remember thinking, ‘I hope the baby’s OK, and don’t worry about me. Just make him OK.'”

She goes on to explain that she will be dancing a Rumba to Nick’s song “Godspeed (Sweet Dreams)” a song that she says helped get the couple get through the tough times after their son was born premature.

“2017, the year that our family was complete, is my most memorable year,” she says in the video, before it cuts to her emotional performance.
