George Floyd’s daughter Gianna talks about her late father in this touching video

George Floyd changed the world. I’m sure plenty of people would strongly disagree with that statement. Some have gone out of their way to bring up Floyd’s criminal history as a way to discredit him — as if to say that people with criminal pasts don’t deserve to be honored for the good things they brought into the world.

But one of the most important voices in this entire conversation about Floyd’s death is that of his 6-year-old daughter, Gianna. The young girl recently made an insightful statement that is touching people everywhere.

Retired NBA player Stephen Jackson is reportedly a good friend of the Floyd family, and last week, he shared a heartwarming video to his Instagram. In this clip, Jackson has Gianna on his shoulders and while the two look like they’re having fun, her words speak volumes. “Daddy changed the world,” Gianna says. Jackson is quick to agree with her, saying, “That’s right. ‘Daddy changed the world.’”

Part of Jackson’s caption for the post reads, “That’s right GiGi ‘Daddy changed the world’ 😢😢😢😢😢 George Floyd the name of change.”

Those words certainly ring true in light of the events following Floyd’s death, including the riots across the world within the Black Lives Matter movement. Some are calling this the biggest civil rights movement in history and people are finally beginning to listen to black voices speak about police brutality.

It was after the protests that Floyd’s killer, ex-cop Derek Chauvin, was charged with second-degree murder, after initially being charged with third-degree murder. The three other cops involved in Floyd’s death, Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao, were arrested and charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter.

Protesters are also bringing attention to other police brutality cases where the victims did not see justice. This includes Breonna Taylor who was killed by police as she slept in her home back in March. There’s also a Change.org petition attempting to reopen the case of Kendrick Johnson who died in 2013. His death was ruled an accident, but his family believes he was murdered.

A Go Fund Me campaign has been set up for Gianna and it is quickly approaching its $2 million goal. Its description says, “100% of funds will go to Gianna’s care and future.” It also mentions the creation of The George and Gianna Floyd Foundation for people who want to send gifts to Gianna.

“Because of the outpouring of love and support felt around the world, we are proud to announce a foundation that we have created where supporters can send what they feel from the heart,” organizers wrote on the page.

You can even buy t-shirts that say, “Daddy changed the world.” Haus of Jr has teamed up with Minilicious to release limited-edition shirts with Gianna’s unforgettable words on them. All of the proceeds will go to The George and Gianna Floyd Foundation.
