This Video Of Kids Sledding In A Flamingo Pool Float is Going Viral

Pool floats completely blew up last summer (no pun intended). Every animal, trendy food and wine varietal under the sun was ripe for a pool float reincarnation. We floated in them. We took photos with them. Then, we deflated them. All good things must come to an end.

But who says we have to wait until the weather warms up again to bring our pool floats out of storage? Nobody, that’s who! It turns out that all you need is a little snow and a pool float to have an epic snow day.

Seattle has experienced several storms this month, with the entire city getting walloped with snow in recent days.

But it turns out the weather has also provided the perfect opportunity to test pool floats’ winter viability. Some especially creative kids discovered pool floats can be excellent sleds. With all its hilly streets now covered in slick snow, Seattle became a prime spot for sledding.

KOMO meteorologist Scott Sistek shared this video of a flamingo pool float-turned-sled on Facebook. The video, originally filmed by Doug Patterson, shows a group of nine kids packed into an enormous flamingo pool float.

As you can see in the clip, the float eases its way down a snow-covered street. While it doesn’t hit any high speeds, all the riders look and sound like they are having a blast.

It’s quite a thrill just watching a flamingo the size of a car ambling down a street. It’s no surprise the video went viral. It now has more than 5 million views!

The residents of Seattle have had plenty of occasions to break out their pool floats in recent days, as the city dealt with extreme weather for two weeks in a row. Days after getting hit with snow on Feb. 10, a second winter storm rolled in on Feb. 15, forcing the cancellation of hundreds of flights into Seattle, as well as the early closing of many local businesses.

Schools and colleges also canceled classes, according to Fox13.

Though it’s important to stay safe during this weather (authorities are asking people to stay off the roads as much as possible), it’s good to see that the snow isn’t depriving locals of having some fun. And since there are still several weeks to go before spring starts to surface, these kids may get a chance to take another ride on their flamingo float!

Would you try pool float sledding the next time your city gets a snowstorm?
