Sledding is a fun wintertime activity everyone can enjoy — including pandas! At the National Zoo in Washington, D.C., giant pandas Mei Xiang and Tian Tian had a blast “sledding” down a snowy hill on Jan. 31, after winter weather moved through the city.

Giant pandas come from a mountainous region of central China, where they live in high-altitude forests. So it’s no surprise that they are enjoying this snowy taste of their natural habitat.

Their snow day fun was captured on video and posted to the Smithsonian National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute’s Facebook page.

“Slides, somersaults and pure panda joy,” reads the post accompanying the adorable video. “Happy snow day from giant pandas Mei Xiang and Tian Tian!”

Aww! So cute! People couldn’t get enough of the pandas enjoying the fluffy snow, and the video has more than 116,000 likes and more than 79,000 shares.

In the comments, fans of Mei Xiang and Tian Tian expressed how the pandas’ happiness was infectious.

“Totally how I feel about snow, too!” wrote Donna Rae. “Panda, you’re my spirit animal! Let’s eat some bamboo together and slide in the snow!”

“Animals can be so like humans,” noted Michael Slater. “And they do not destroy our wonderful planet. Seeing an animal so happy is a joy.”

“Loved this one and just wanted to show others to give everyone a little joy watching pandas today,” agreed Jonnie Westbrook.

If you want to see more of these fun-loving pandas, you can check them out on the Smithsonian National Zoo’s Panda Cams. On Aug. 21, 2020, Mei Xiang gave birth to a male cub named Xiao Qi Ji, and if you’re lucky, you can catch a glimpse of him, too.

Of course, these giant pandas were not the only animals to have fun frolicking in the snow in the wake of recent snowstorms across the country.

In Arizona, some baby elephants at the Reid Park Zoo also got the chance to play in the snow last week, a rarity in the warm climate.

Happy snow day!
