Here’s How You Can Vote To Pick The Tokens For The Next Monopoly Game
Monopoly fans, it’s your move! Game-maker Hasbro is letting fans pick out tokens for its next-generation Monopoly game.
Fans can pick eight tokens from a list of 50-plus contenders. Among the options vying for the board game? A penguin to waddle around the board, an adorable bunny slipper to traipse through Marvin Gardens and a rather dapper bowtie fit for Boardwalk. If you’re a purist (we know, you were steaming mad when they took away the iron), fret not: The original tokens are still options and you can vote to save them.

We perused through the gallery and saw something old (a handset phone) and something new (a hashtag). A loaf of sliced bread is also on the table. Some other tokens up for the vote: a sailboat, a television set, a dinosaur, a roller skate, a fish, a beach ball, a monster truck, a winking face emoji, a cowboy boot, and tennis shoes. Oh, and it looks like the top hat has a rival—a wide-brimmed cowboy hat.
Want to have a say in this? Don’t pass Go, don’t collect $200, go directly to VoteMonopoly.com to choose the eight tokens you want to see in the next board game. You’ve got until Jan. 31 to vote to have your say in what will be, dare we say it, a game-changer?
As a refresher, the current Monopoly tokens include the Scottie dog, top hat, car, thimble, boot, wheelbarrow, battleship and the cat (which replaced the iron).
Hasbro will reveal the results on March 19, which, mark your calendars, is World Monopoly Day.

A little primer on Monopoly history: The board game has been around since 1935 and the car, thimble, boot, top hat and battleship were the original tokens. The Scottie dog and the wheelbarrow made their debut in the 1950s. In 2013, fans voted to replace the iron with the cat.
Oh, and if you’re still broken-hearted about the iron token being gone, you can actually buy one on Amazon and BYOT (bring your own token) to the next board game night.
