5 Ways To Leave Your Stress At The Office

We’ve partnered with Homemadesimple.com, a Procter & Gamble brand, to bring you some of our favorite home and beauty tips, advice and expertise.

Finding a balance between your career and your personal life can be challenging, especially when it’s so easy to bring stress from the office home. When work seeps into your personal life, it can negatively impact your energy and your relationships.

Learning how to “leave work at work” can help you feel less frazzled and improve relationships with those around you. Here are five simple, everyday things you can do to lower your stress levels at the end of the day.

1. Sweat It Out

If you’re able, fit in a workout directly after your workday ends. Working out can help relieve any stress you are feeling and will leave you with a rush of endorphins that can improve your mood.

Book a new exercise class or schedule a yoga session to start. For a particularly stressful day, try something high intensity like running or boot camp-style workouts.

Of course, make sure your doctor approves you for physical activity — because the last thing anyone needs is an injury!

2. Plan To Unplug

If you have a busy workweek ahead, block out some “down time” in your schedule over the weekend. Knowing that you have sufficient time to relax will give you motivation to power through the week. Separating yourself from work will also help reset your gears and get you ready for another week.

3. Find Your Zen

Start your relaxation ritual on your commute home, as it can help you transition from work mode to home mode. You’ll arrive less stressed and be ready for the evening.

Listen to calming or upbeat music on the radio (or your headphones if you take mass transit) — it can help put a smile on your face and a little more pep in your step.

Taking time to meditate each day can also help to reduce your stress levels and improve your mental wellbeing.

4. Always Have A Pen And Paper

A lot of your workplace stress can come from feeling overwhelmed by the amount of work you have to do. If you find yourself staying awake at night with anxiety about the following day, it’s time to find a solution.

Setting aside a few minutes each evening to create a to-do list for the following day can help you feel more prepared and will ensure you don’t forget anything. With all of your work responsibilities on paper, you will be able to feel more relaxed at home.

Creating a list can also help you prioritize your day, giving you a tool to make tomorrow as productive and stress-free as possible.

5. Slip Into Your Comfy Clothes!

One of the best ways to put the workday behind you is to change out of your work clothes as soon as you get home. Slipping into something comfortable can keep you more at ease.

Work clothes are the uniform for the day, so changing out of them can help you shift your mindset from work to home seamlessly.
