Ice cream is awesome. Cookie dough is awesome. Cookie dough ice cream might possibly be humankind’s greatest invention.
But not all cookie dough ice cream is created equal. So Buzzfeed — in what is surely the highest calling of the scientific method — decided to conduct an experiment to find out which brand of ice cream offers the most cookie-dough bang for your buck.
The four brands Buzzfeed tested were Ben and Jerry’s, Haagen-Dazs, SO Delicious and Three Twins. Someone with way more willpower than me scooped out the ice cream into a bowl and waited for it to melt and — WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS SAVE THE ICE CREAM! NOOOOO!
Once the ice cream was melted, testers could separate out the cookie dough and weigh it.
And The Cookie Dough Winner Is?
Ben and Jerry’s clearly won the cookie crown. It contained almost 3.5 ounces of cookie dough, accounting for 21 percent of the total pint. Haagen Daas came in second with 2 ounces, followed by SO Delicious and Three Twins, each with 1.25 ounces.
While this was a worthy experiment, I do see some areas in which further testing is necessary. Are the amounts consistent across all pints, or do some Ben & Jerry’s pints end up with more dough than others? Are the dough chunks spread evenly throughout the ice cream? What about which one has the highest concentration of chocolate chips? What about other lesser-known brands?
Basically what I am saying is you should just go to the store today and buy a whole bunch of cookie dough ice cream and do your own research. In the name of science. Maybe you can find a way to do the experiment without wasting the ice cream.
Of course, if you still aren’t satisfied with the amount of dough in your ice cream, there is a shop in New York that simply scoops out cookie dough into your cone. No ice cream needed.
I may not be a math major, but 100 percent seems like a very good cookie-dough ratio to me.
