Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are incredibly open with their fans about both their relationship and their family life. Bell’s even warned everyone about pinworms after an experience she had with her daughter — so they really lay it all out there. And we love them for it!
Recently, Shepard shared a photo revealing another interesting piece of information about his wife: She likes to wear gloves in the pool.
If you think this sounds a bit odd, you’re not alone. Shepard, too, found this strange. But Bell claims to have a good reason for it.
“My bride wears gloves in the pool because she hates the feeling of pruney finger tips on skin,” he wrote on Instagram. He added “#Hollyweird” to show his confusion, but also “#iloveher” to lessen the blow of him outing her “phobia” online.
Shepard even explained the moment he learned this fact about his wife on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”
“This is a surprise to me. I’ve been with her 11 years, and what I’ve been told thus far is that she just doesn’t like going in the pool,” he said. “The heat wave was so dramatic … she had to get in the pool.”
He continued, “She said, ‘I’ve got to get my pool gloves,’ and I was like, ‘Get your pool gloves? Are you going to do some underwater welding? Are you going to patch a crack in there?'” he joked.
Bell also appeared on the show to explain herself and let others who suffer from this “condition” know they’re not alone. While she wouldn’t necessarily call this fear of pruney fingers a phobia, she does take it very seriously.
“I would call it a very serious undiagnosed and yet to be discovered medical condition that tens of people in America might also suffer from,” she told Jimmy Kimmel. “I’m not ashamed, because in my lifetime I want to remove the stigma of the maybe 10 people who also suffer.”
She says the gloves are scuba gloves, so they’re made for use in the water. She admits that no one has reached out to let her know that they, too, hate pruney fingers as much as she does, but she has a feeling there are others out there.
If you happen to dislike pruney fingers, too, you can find a pair of scuba gloves similar to Bell’s online. There are plenty of options on Amazon. This pair, for example, retails from $14.99-$32.95:
While she’s willing to share this with the world now, Bell admits that she kept this a secret from her husband in the beginning.
“I can’t lead with that,” she said.
Now, the happily married couple know each other’s deepest, darkest secrets and try to remember to “stay vulnerable with each other.” This was a piece of marriage advice Bell gave to a soon-to-be-married couple, and it’s obviously one she takes to heart.
I received a letter from a nice man who asked if I could write a note to his friends who are getting married. I wrote something congratulatory but then thought "Kristen! Wait! You are an old married woman, shouldn't you have some wisdom to share?!" After I was finished I realized what I wrote is pretty much the A-Z of how @daxshepard and I keep our relationship healthy. Its worked for us so far, So here ya go. ♥️♥️♥️ #happyvalentinesday
You’re never more vulnerable than when you’re in the pool with your pool gloves on, after all.
