Why Shania Twain mentions Brad Pitt in ‘That Don’t Impress Me Much’

“OK, so you’re Brad Pitt? That don’t impress me much,” Shania Twain sang.

Any good country music fan can immediately start singing along with this classic tune from 1997. But in the 20 years since the song debuted, Twain has never explained exactly why Brad Pitt didn’t impress her much. Until now, that is.

Twain recently told the hilarious story to Billboard during an interview ahead of her new album.

“I’ve never told this before. I’m going to say it now,” she told the reporter.

It all started during a girl’s night, when she and a friend started talking about the nude photos of Pitt and then-girlfriend Gwyneth Paltrow that appeared in Playgirl. She said the scandal was “all the rage,” but she didn’t get it.

I just thought ‘I don’t know what all the fuss is about.’ I’m like, well that don’t impress me much, I mean what is all the fuss. We see people naked every day. That’s really what I thought. I wasn’t picking on Brad Pitt. But that was just the association in that moment and things we make fusses about and whatever. Of course, it could have been any gorgeous guy.

The rest of song details other ways different vain men “don’t impress me much,” according to Twain. It includes a guy keeping a mirror in his pocket to make sure he’s always looking good. And, of course, there’s the guy kissing his car goodnight.

The song was just one hit on a hugely popular album, “Come On Over.” The album also includes “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” and “Honey I’m Home,” for a trio of strong female anthems.

Twain did go on a farewell tour in 2015. But it turns out we’re in for some new belting-in-the-car-worthy songs. Her new album, called “NOW,” drops Sept. 29. You can pre-order it now, and take a look at her tour dates to see if the Canadian country singer is stopping by your town.
