If you’re a fan of musicals, then you know the tour de force that is “Hamilton.”
The musical, which recently won 11 Tony Awards (after being nominated for a record-setting 16), has been the biggest show to grace a Broadway stage in years. “Hamilton” is so popular that even the worst tickets in the house have been selling for four figures.
But we’ve just recently learned that the show, based on the life of U.S. founding father Alexander Hamilton, will be filmed and parts, if not all, of it will air on PBS this fall.
The show’s creator and star, Lin-Manuel Miranda (whom you may have seen recently on this epic Broadway edition of James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke) will do his last “Hamilton” performance on July 9, and tickets are nearly impossible to come by before then. The good news is that, in addition to continuing its run on Broadway with a replacement for Miranda, the show will take to the road. The first stop of the traveling show will be in Chicago this fall, and plans are in the works to bring it to other cities as well.
And, luckily, for the rest of us, PBS will air its “Great Performances” show about Hamilton on October 17. Stay tuned!
