Rumors are circulating that Elsa may have a girlfriend in ‘Frozen 2’
Fans of Disney’s smash hit “Frozen” are already eagerly anticipating its sequel, “Frozen 2,” set to premiere in November 2019. When the original film came out back in 2013, suddenly everyone could not get its anthemic hit song “Let It Go” out of their heads.
Some people began to speculate the song was a “coming-out anthem” and that Elsa could be a lesbian. Many people were on board with the idea and began to campaign for Elsa to have a female love interest in the sequel, using the hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend on social media to make their wishes known:

One “Frozen” fan recently wrote on Twitter that portraying Elsa as a lesbian would teach children “how to have an open mind and not judge others, and to accept and be comfortable with their own sexual and gender orientation.”
#GiveElsaAGirlfriend because representation matters. Cuz u can teach children acceptance, how to love, to not bully others because of their differences, how to have an open mind and not judge others, and to accept and be comfortable with their own sexual and gender orientation.

‘Frozen’ Director Sounds In
Well, ask and you shall receive—maybe. In an interview about her new film, “A Wrinkle In Time,” “Frozen” writer-director Jennifer Lee addressed the rumors—without giving a definitive answer one way or the other.
“I love everything people are saying [and] people are thinking about with our film―that it’s creating dialogue, that Elsa is this wonderful character that speaks to so many people,” she told Huffington Post. “It means the world to us that we’re part of these conversations.”
Lee went on to say that she and her team have had many conversations about Elsa’s character development, and added, “we’re really conscientious about these things.”
“For me … Elsa’s every day telling me where she needs to go, and she’ll continue to tell us,” Lee said. “I always write from character-out, and where Elsa is and what Elsa’s doing in her life, she’s telling me every day. We’ll see where we go.”
Of course, not everyone is on board with an LGBTQ plot line in a Disney movie:
#GiveElsaAGirlfriend will surely backfire, this is what killed the Batman franchise in 1997 – Many conservative Americans would not let their daughters see a film with a lead gay character – @Disney just focus on making films, leave the politics out https://t.co/HhhYWzercJ

While others are simply disappointed to hear that Elsa’s story would involve a romantic relationship, period.
I am gay and 100% not a homophobe but not too keen on Elsa specifically having a female love interest. I am all for more diverse characters and would love to see this happen but Elsa's story is about being a strong, independant woman. She don't need no man or woman!

Disney Channel’s First Openly Gay Character
If Elsa does turn out to be a lesbian, it would be a major step for Disney in the portrayal of gay characters. The possibility comes on the heels of actor Joshua Rush talking about his experience portraying the Disney Channel’s first openly gay character on the network’s show “Andi Mack.”

“I knew that I wanted to do it justice, because I knew that people were gonna end up seeing this and being like, ‘Wow that’s me, I identify with that [and] I can be who I am now,’ but I also wanted to make sure that it’s not all-encompassing. Like that’s not all of Cyrus’ personality,” Rush told People.
The series has received a nomination for a GLAAD Media Award.
