A ‘Willy Wonka’ prequel is in the works about the candy man’s early life

How can you not love Willy Wonka? As if owning a candy factory and living with Oompa Loompas isn’t enough, his eccentric personality has made generations fall in love with him through books and films. And now there are talks of of bringing Wonka back yet again — this time as a prequel!

Not only do we have details on the prequel, but just wait until you learn who is rumored to play everyone’s favorite candy man.

Wonka first came to life in the 1964 book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl. He then appeared in the 1971 film “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” and the 2005 adaptation with the same name as the original book title, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a script for a prequel has already been written, but is being kept under wraps. Paul King, director of the “Paddington” movies, will allegedly direct the newest film.

According to Variety, the new film will be a standalone movie that follows Wonka on his early adventures. It has been in talks since 2016 when Warner Bros acquired the intellectual property rights to the character from the Ronald Dahl Estate.

Being a prequel means it is probably unlikely you’ll see Charlie Bucket, Violet Beauregarde, Augustus Gloop or any of the other characters we know and love (or hate) return. But perhaps we’ll get more background on the Oompa Loompas, as all we really know so far is they come from Loompaland.

As for the actor rumored to play Wonka in the new film, well, that is none other than *drumroll*…

… Ryan Gosling! That’s right, the “La La Land” star might just get the chance to show off more of his musical chops, if a rumor from That Hash Tag Show is true. Wonka has already been played by the late Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp on the big screen, so Gosling would have some pretty big shoes to fill.

But we’d say he can totally pull it off!
