Wisteria are blooming in London right now and they’re absolutely gorgeous

Every spring, certain parts of London light up in lilac, violet, pink and white thanks to the city’s wow-worthy wisteria blooms. And this year, during the peak of the season, posts about the #wisteriahysteria have sprouted up all over Instagram.

Some of the best London neighborhoods to spot wisteria are Notting Hill, Chelsea, and Kensington (near the palace and Hyde Park). But this bloom only lasts a few weeks, and the flowers are at their best at the end of April and early May — so you only have a short window to see them.

One street in particular, Kynance Mews, is “a unique street with houses converted from stables, which really comes alive with wisteria in the spring,” according to Insider. You can see a house on Kynance Mews below in @iuliamstoica’s Instagram post showing gorgeous wisteria vines in bloom on the side of a forest green and brown brick building.

This stunning home in Notting Hill has a “wisteria waterfall” going — as its photographer, Jessica at @jesstudd, put it. The contrast of the colorful flowers with the black and white building is a sight to behold!

“The scent coming from these fresh #wisteria blooms was incredible! What a treat,” posted @purplegemgem from Kensington Church Street.

Instafamous mini schnauzer Hector Pickleton also posed among the blooms as seen below, although he was apparently skeptical.

“Wisteria hysteria they call it. Humans are so peculiar,” was the caption on his wisteria glamour shot.

Instagram user Bei Na Wei at @bei.bei.wei posted a photo of a very popular wisteria-fronted home with a pink door in Notting Hill on May 3. She said that the blooms were starting to fade.

“I went out wisteria hunting yesterday and I’m sad to report that the season is at it’s end 😥 (sic),” she said. “At least I still have a few more beauties saved for sharing.”

London isn’t the only place to capture photos of gorgeous wisteria displays. Besides its famous cherry blossoms, Japan is also known for a stunning wisteria season in the spring.

And people certainly do like posing with the poppies … in California. Or the bluebonnets in Texas. Or the cherry blossoms in lots of places.

What’s your favorite seasonal flower to capture on camera?
