Woman Texts Live Updates To Her Boyfriend During World Cup — And They’re Hilarious

Play-by-play announcers are kind of known for having their sports lingo and know-how down pat, but who said there wasn’t room for a few new voices? Especially if the commentary is as hilarious as this London woman who relayed events of a recent World Cup game to her boyfriend.

“My boyfriend asked me to text him updates from the #ENGTUN game as he’s on his way home,” tweeted @lightningstarr, a law student, on June 18. “You can’t say it’s not accurate.”

People immediately took notice of @lightningstarr‘s fun commentary, garnering her tweet more than 6,000 retweets and 24,000 likes. And the comments are still rolling in, with most people asking for one thing: More commentary from @lightningstarr.

Some said her humor may have even turned them on to the sport. One woman wrote: “Please, never stop” followed by a laughing emoji.

Other commenters claimed @lightningstarr had found her calling and lobbied for someone to hire her as a sports commentator.

Other people commented that the exchange was exactly the comedic relief they needed. One woman commented that @lightningstarr’s tweets were “going viral all the way in Kenya.”

Then again, some commenters were just plain old fixated on the players’ hair which, according to @lightningstarr, was “holding up well” 34 minutes into the game.

Once the initial tweet with the updates took off, @lightningstarr tweeted screenshots of some of the other texts she sent her boyfriend.

“In case you’re wondering what else happened in the match (probably not as funny, and some more typos, apologies,” she wrote.

Of course, there were also several users who urged @lightningstarr’s boyfriend to be thankful his girlfriend is not only funny, but ridiculously awesome for sending him live updates.

Because at the heart of this hilarious exchange is love and that’s kind of what makes this whole thing adorable, right?
