Watch the first trailer for the ‘Wonder Woman’ sequel starring Gal Gadot

I have a confession to make: I adore Wonder Woman!

When I was a little girl, I’ve read the comic books, watched the classic 1970s TV series with Lynda Carter, and yes even dressed up at the Amazonian princess more times than I care to admit.

It took decades for Wonder Woman to take her place on the big screen with her own movies. But in 2017, “Wonder Woman” starring Gal Gadot blew away audiences and drew in $821 million in global box office sales. Rumors about a sequel spread quickly, and fortunately, we didn’t have to wait long: In 2018, director Patty Jenkins confirmed filming for “Wonder Woman 1984” was underway!

Now, we have the first full-length trailer for that movie, slated to debut on June 5, 2020. The trailer was released as part of Brazil’s Comic-Con event. Even Gal Gadot herself was so excited about the trailer that she shared a brief clip before the live stream of the event the next day.

As the title suggests, our heroine is now in the era of day-glo and fanny packs: the 1980s. It’s a far cry from Europe during World War I, which is when the first film took place. At the opening of the trailer, Diana (wearing normal clothes) is talking to an unidentified woman who asks the princess if she’s ever been in love.

“A long, long time ago,” Diana replies.

The trailer has what seems like a bit of a spoiler: Diana’s true love Steve Trevor (played by actor Chris Pine) died in a plane explosion near the end of the first movie, yet we see him and Diana reunite in the trailer. How is this possible? We will need to wait and find out.

It’s clear from the trailer that “Wonder Woman 1984” has some incredible fight sequences where she uses not only her famous bullet-proof bracelets to protect herself and Steve, but also her tiara as a destructive boomerang and her magical golden lasso in some eyebrow-raising acrobatic feats, including riding lightning:

The trailer also shows us hints of the iconic invisible jet and even brings the story around to how Diana becomes a curator at the Louvre Museum in Paris, as mentioned in “Batman vs. Superman.”

We still have a little over six months until all our questions are answered. But, it looks like this movie is going to be a wonderful continuation of this amazing character’s story!
