You Can Now Order Cocktails Made With CBD—Or Make One At Home

If you’re looking for a fun twist on your traditional night out, consider something new: a cocktail made with CBD.

CBD is the non-intoxicating element of the cannabis plant (not to be confused with THC, the stuff that actually gets you high). It’s used for everything from helping children suffering from epileptic seizures to reducing anxiety to soothing aches and pains.

Though everyone feels a bit differently when they take CBD, it can have a relaxing, mellowing effect on some people. That’s why the team at The Nickel, the bar and restaurant at the historic Hotel Teatro in Denver, decided to partner with CBD company Supergood to create some one-of-a-kind cocktails with CBD.

There are now two CBD cocktails on the menu at The Nickel: the Chill Lebowski and the Super Limoncello Haze. They’re also adding a non-alcoholic, CBD iced tea drink.

Plus, if you’re trying to cut back on alcohol, a CBD cocktail might be just the thing.

“When taken with alcohol, the effects of CBD (and other compounds in the cannabis plant) have been known to be heightened,” says Ashlae Warner, co-founder of Supergood. “CBD has a mellowing effect on a lot of people, so you can expect that feeling to be even more intense when you throw alcohol into the mix. If you need a few drinks to take the edge off at the end of a long day, one CBD-infused cocktail just might be all you need to unwind.”

Of course, Denver isn’t the only city where this trend is popping up. You’ll also find CDB cocktails in Chicago, Miami and Atlanta, just to name a few. CBD is also popping up in other products, including jelly beans and sparkling water.

The Chill Lebowski

Want to make a CBD cocktail at home? You can easily do so with this recipe for The Chill Lebowski, a super tasty after-dinner drink that tastes like a delicious latte.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz Mell Vodka
  • 1 oz (single shot) espresso
  • 1 oz honey syrup
  • 3/4 oz Ancho Reyes Chili Liqueur
  • 1/2 oz Frangelico
  • Egg white
  • 2 dashes chocolate bitters
  • CBD oil (~12 mg)

Once you’ve got all the ingredients ready, combine everything except the CBD oil into your cocktail shaker. Shake hard to create a frothy head, then strain into a small snifter glass. Once the drink settles a bit, squirt the CBD on top of the froth and enjoy.
