You can solve a murder mystery on this Napa Valley Wine Train

The Napa Valley Wine Train launched 30 years ago, offering specialty wine country tours and tastings on its historic train cars. Chugging along through the vineyards, sipping world-class vino and dining on gourmet cuisine proved to be the ultimate way to explore wine country. It’s no surprise that the golden days of rail travel remain alluring to this day.

Now that train tours are even more common, with similar rides being offered around the world, the Napa Valley Wine Train has re-imagined the experience in partnership with The Murder Mystery Company. Together, they’ll be running speakeasy-themed murder mystery train tours.

“We’re thrilled to partner with a nationally-renowned group like The Murder Mystery Company to continue this unique offering,” said Scott Goldie, co-CEO of Napa Valley Wine Train. “Our vintage train is the ideal setting for this interactive journey and its early 1920s theme.”

The first Murder Mystery Train tour leaves the station on Saturday, April 13.

Character Development

What will this new tour entail? Passengers on the train will have three hours to band together and solve a 1920s-themed fictional murder mystery complete with mobsters, undercover agents and many more sly characters.

Throughout the journey, passengers will discover hidden clues and play detective, gathering enough evidence to nab the murderer red-handed.

To fuel all their sleuthing, passengers will have a multi-course gourmet dinner prepared for them by Executive Chef Donald Young. Their meals will also include some perfectly paired pinot.

To set the scene, the company encourages guests to don their favorite 1920s attire. Bring your own fringe, feathers and fedoras for a tour that’s really the bee’s knees.

Time Stamp

The Murder Mystery Tour train runs select days April through November, starting at 5:30 p.m. Passengers begin the mysterious journey off the train and leave the station at 6:30 p.m. Each trip wraps up at 9:30 p.m., whether or not you solve the mystery.

Unfortunately, delaying your detective work does not earn extra train time or wine. Ticket prices start at $216 per person, including food, wine and participation in the murder mystery.
