Let’s face it, as much as we love our phones it can be a huge pain to keep them charged. The good news is that there are some really bright people working to fix this problem. A new company called SolePower has a unique approach on how to help. They want to take the energy produced through your steps and convert it into electricity that can charge your phone.
SolePower won the Popular Science Invention Award last year by creating an insole that generates power through the force of each foot landing on the ground. This power can then be used to charge your mobile devices. Matt Stanton, the founder of SolePower, said the ultimate goal is to help people in developing nations, where electricity is unreliable, produce power allowing them to connect to the world.
The video above helps explain the science behind their insole technology. It’s interesting that one hour of walking will generate 30 minutes of power for your phone.
The insoles aren’t on the market yet, but you can pre-order now if you want to be the first to try it out.
