3D Doritos are returning to stores

Nineties kids rejoice! One of your favorite after-school snacks is about to be back on store shelves. Earlier this year, Dunkaroos made their sweet reappearance. Now it’s time for something a bit more savory: 3D Doritos are coming back, and we are here for it.

Doritos 3D first appeared on the market in the mid-1990s, and they made quite a splash (an Associated Press article referred to the puffed-out corn chips as “outlandish”). They were available in many different flavors, from Jalapeño & Cheddar to Nacho Cheesier to Zesty Ranch.

Doritos 3D were discontinued in the early 2000s. Although Frito-Lay introduced Doritos Jacked 3D in 2015, they were not the same airy puffs fans loved.

But according to the junk food news and reviews site Candy Hunting, the memorable snack is making a comeback in January.

“Now here’s the real news: Doritos 3D will be back on January 18! Flavors include Spicy Ranch and Chili Cheese Nacho,” they tweeted, noting that they got this information from the public Frito-Lay playbook.

Best Products reports that Frito-Lay says the chips were the most requested product from customers. A quick search on Twitter supports this claim, and some fans are even saying this is already making their 2021 look brighter.

Kevin Kivior (@Kivior) tweeted directly to Doritos. “I hope you make about a billion #3dDoritos,” he posted. “I’m buying up as many as possible. I’ve been asking and searching and you guys are about to come through in the clutch. Thanks a ton- #2020survivor.”

“I have never once cared about anything like I care about 3D Doritos,” tweeted @1handsomecmbck.

“Just because the calendar changes from 2020 to 2021 doesn’t mean things will just get better…. ugh yeah it does. These are coming back in January,” Twitter user @DarbyD53 posted.

Notably, the name of the upcoming snack is Doritos 3D Crunch, so whether they are exactly the same as fans remember remains to be seen. Regardless, the chips could give you one more reason to look forward to 2021.
