Behr Paint is Hiring Someone to Travel the World Looking for Paint Color Inspiration

Looking for a job that combines both travel and art? Apply to be a “color explorer” for Behr Paint. The company is looking for someone to travel throughout the United States and Canada in search of inspiration for new paint colors. At the end of the quest, the lucky candidate will have the opportunity to create and name a new paint color. If you’re the type who obsesses over crayon colors or nail polish shades, this is definitely the gig for you.

“People are fascinated by the paint color-naming process. It requires a lot of time and creativity because each name tells a microstory about the specific shade,” Erika Woelfel, vice president of Color and Creative Services at Behr Paint, said in a statement. “Our color experts travel the globe tracking down emerging color trends, and we’re excited to give our Behr Color Explorer a glimpse into this process by sending them on a search for new, dynamic hues to add to Behr Paint’s color collection.”

At each stop, the color explorer will take detailed field notes and photos, as well as document their journey via social media and Colorfully, the company’s blog. According to the job description, the trip will take the color explorer everywhere from the “glacial blues of Lake Louise in Banff” to a “vibrant musical festival” to the “bold exteriors of Charleston’s Rainbow Row.”

Interested? The job takes place this summer, and all travel expenses are paid for. The color explorer will also receive a $10,000 stipend. Candidates must be at least 21 years old and a permanent resident of either the United States or Canada with a valid passport. You can apply April 24 through May 10. All you have to do is explain, in 150 words or less, what color inspires you most and why.
