New year, new hair. Now that 2019 is officially here, beauty experts are busy predicting what the biggest trends in hair will be in the coming year. From baby bangs to mushroom blonde, there are tons of fashion-forward looks to try on your tresses in the new year.
Yet another hair trend on the rise is chocolate lilac hair. This shade of brunette with a dusting of purple is super pretty. It’s a bit dramatic without being too over-the-top. Check out this gorgeous shade, as shown on Instagram by colorist and bridal stylist @brandipaintshair:

Lilac-tinted treses are not just for brunettes though. Blonde hair can look awesome with some purple pastel as well. Just check out Lady Gaga’s new ‘do, which features her signature platinum-blonde locks with a pale purple hue on top.
Gaga’s always a trendsetter, so you know if the shade has her seal of approval, it’s bound to be popular. Her fiance, Christian Carino, posted this picture of the entertainer rocking the look on Instagram:
Although Gaga looks every bit the rock star with her purple hair and leather jacket, this shade is not reserved for celebrities only. Stylist Madison Villo posted her client wearing the shade on a choppy lob, and the results are so chic:
If you’re planning on giving this hue a try, there are some steps you should take to keep your color looking fresh. Using a violet-based shampoo can help maintain the color, provided you don’t overwash your hair. Washing with cold water helps as well.
“Hot water opens up the hair cuticle and releases the color pigment from the hair,” Ian Michael Black, Aveda global artistic director for hair color, told Refinery29. “I know it doesn’t sound very relaxing, but I recommend using cool water when rinsing your shampoo and conditioner.”
