Coca-Cola has announced it will be introducing a new fizzy flavor to its fans: Orange Vanilla Coke.

Orange Vanilla Coke and Orange Vanilla Coke Zero Sugar will hit stores nationwide Feb. 25. The announcement is a pretty big deal for soda lovers because this is the first time the brand has rolled out a new Coca-Cola flavor since 2007, which was when Vanilla Coke first debuted. Cherry Coke has been on the market since 1985.

Coca-Cola has been much more innovative with its Diet Coke varieties, recently launching Blueberry Acai and Strawberry Guava flavors. The existing Diet Coke lineup also includes Ginger Lime, Feisty Cherry, Zesty Blood Orange and Twisted Mango. Wild, right?

The company has been much more reserved with its traditional Coca-Cola flavors, but they saw a demand for an additional flavor in its Coca-Cola line-up as sales of Cherry Coke and Vanilla Coke had been strong in recent years, even with little marketing muscle behind them.

The company considered three other Coke flavors: raspberry, lemon and ginger. But Coca-Cola says the combo of orange and vanilla was a clear favorite in focus groups.

“We wanted to bring back positive memories of carefree summer days,” Kate Carpenter, brand director, Coca-Cola, said in a news release. “That’s why we leaned into the orange-vanilla flavor combination — which is reminiscent of the creamy orange popsicles we grew up loving, but in a classically Coke way.”

Will you give the new Coke flavor a try when it rolls out, or do you prefer to stick to the classics?
