Carrie Fisher’s passing has devastated the Star Wars actress’ fans and the Hollywood community. But, her spirit lives on in the hearts of her biggest supporters, and those include all of the little girls who dress up as Princess Leia from here on out.
The character has already had an unquestionable impact on fans of the epic film series for decades, but some folks are hoping to crown Carrie Fisher and Princess Leia with an additional degree of royalty by making her an official Disney Princess.
According to Hello Giggles, if Leia were to be added to the list, she’d be the 12th official princess and join the iconic likes of Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and more—which is no small feat.
According to the Change.org petition, “After the tragic lose [sic] of Carrie Fisher, we feel that it is only fitting for Disney to do away with the rule that an official Disney princess must be animated and make Leia a full-fledged princess. This would be a wonderful way to remember Carrie and a welcoming to one of Disney’s new properties that is beloved by millions.”
We think this would be an amazing way to honor Fisher and her legacy.
Time magazine points out that Disney bought Lucasfilm (the company that brought you the “Star Wars” franchise) back in 2012, so this wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility for Disney. Though, according to Hello Giggles and Time, Disney has yet to comment on the matter.
The idea is definitely popular amongst the people. At the time of publication, the petition had 33,216 signatures in support. They’re only 1,784 away from their goal of 35,000.
So, if you’re into the idea of adding a kick-butt-and-take-names-later kind of gal to the current Disney Princess line-up, head over to Change.org to sign your name. If all else fails, maybe we can all use the Force to sway Disney!
