Here’s what you need to actually pull off working outside
When temperatures outside dip below zero, there’s nothing we want more than to head inside — even if it’s only Monday and “inside” is your office. But when the summer sun is shining, pretty much the last thing we want to do is sit at a desk all day.
That, of course, begs the question: If you could work outside, would you?
A recent survey from clothing company L.L. Bean found that while 87 percent of workers say they enjoy the outdoors, 75 percent rarely or never actually take time to work outside. Why? Only 41 percent said their colleagues and boss would be supportive of them working in the sun.
Of course, if you already work from home or are your own boss, you can work wherever you want! Which is pretty sweet, because working outside is good for you. Here’s a list of things you need if you want to work outside and, as a bonus, all can be bought right on Amazon.
Sunscreen, Sunglasses And Shade
Starting off with the obvious, you’ll definitely need a good pair of sunglasses, some SPF and a nice shady spot. You could also spring for this interesting Facekini mask to make sure your face is totally protected. That is, only if you don’t care what your co-workers think.
Anti-Glare Screen Protector
This one is pretty obvious, too, but could easily be overlooked! Most laptops aren’t exactly made to function in the glare of the sun, so an anti-glare screen protector is a must. They’re fairly cheap, like this two-pack for just $12.99, so they’re definitely worth buying.
Laptop Desk
If you’re working outside, you might want a desk replacement. No worries! Just pick up a laptop desk and your computer won’t have to sit on the ground or right on your legs. (PS. This is the one I use!)
Tumbler To Keep Your Drinks Cold
Nothing ruins a perfectly fun time outside like not having something cold and refreshing to drink. Make sure you pick up a tumbler meant to keep your drinks cold, like this one from MalloMe, which allegedly keeps ice for 24+ hours! If you don’t mind hot drinks in the summer, the tumbler also keeps drinks warm for 12 hours or more.
Keyboard Cover
One downside to taking your laptop outside is that you might end up with bugs, flowers and other tiny annoyances stuck between your keys. The easy solution? A keyboard cover! This one is for a Macbook and only costs $6.90. It also comes in a variety of colors so you can add some flare to your day.
Portable Phone Charger
Another must-have if you’ll be spending the day outside is a portable phone charger. Since you likely won’t have access to a plug, you’ll either need to make sure your phone is fully charged or be prepared with one you can take outside. This one from Anker is only $16.99 and runs on external batteries.
Will you be purchasing any of these essentials for working outside?
