Here’s how you can crochet your own Baby Yoda

Whether you’ve watched “The Mandalorian” on Disney Plus or not, you’re bound to have heard people talking about Baby Yoda. This little green cutie has taken over the internet and become pop culture’s latest obsession in a matter of days.

Naturally, big bucks can be made from TV and movie characters who’ve set the world wide web on fire. Official Baby Yoda merchandise — or “The Child,” as Disney calls it — is on its way, but you’ll have to be patient for some of it. In spring, the first Disney Baby Yoda plush toy will be available online and in Walmart stores (you can register for an in-store alert now).

But that doesn’t mean you can’t craft your own Baby Yoda at home while you’re waiting for your official fuzzy merch to arrive.

Etsy shop PhilaeArtes is selling a crochet pattern for $5 to let you do just that.

HOW. CUTE. Just look at him all bundled up. And those ears!

It’s a crochet amigurumi pattern — amigurumi is simply the Japanese tradition of knitting or crocheting small, stuffed yarn creatures. To make the pattern, you need to know how to make a “magic circle,” crochet stitch (plus increase and decrease) and change to a different color of yarn.

Plenty of crocheters have left positive reviews on the pattern, with many noting that it was easy to follow.

While you’re on Etsy, you could also pick up Baby Yoda socks.

This is only the start of the Baby Yoda merchandise. Another official product on the way is the Baby Yoda Funko Pop figurine, which will be available in the standard and larger (10-inch) versions, in May 2020. You can pre-order now from Shop Disney, Walmart and Amazon.

Other items, like this 500-piece “Mandalorian” jigsaw puzzle featuring Baby Yoda, are on pre-order ahead of a Dec. 30, 2019, release date.

Some official merchandise is already out. Amazon’s Mandalorian shop has a bunch of T-shirts in adult and youth sizes, such as this “Precious cargo” pocket tee.

But you still have to wait for a plush!

In a few months, the shelves will be crammed with Baby Yoda in various shapes and sizes. Until then, get those needles clicking!
