Hugh Jackman Now Has A Guinness World Record

Is Hugh Jackman ever not cute? The answer, it seems, is no. Especially after this week’s big news: Jackman is now in the Guinness Book of World Records, and he’s delighted about it.

Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of the Guinness Book, surprised Jackman during an interview on UK news network ITV. Presented with the plaque for “longest career as a live-action Marvel superhero,” Jackman seemed genuinely shocked and thrilled when Glenday appeared.

That’s because Jackman’s been dreaming of this day for a long time. As he explains in the ITV interview, Jackman and his brother Ralph were determined to get into the Guinness Book of World Records when they were kids.

“My brother and I did come up with the easiest way to get in,” Jackman told interviewer Alison Hammond. “Badminton, nonstop. It was about 54 hours.”

Sadly, young Jackman fell asleep at some point before the world-record continuous-badminton mark.

He finally made it into the book because of his work as Wolverine in the “X-Men” films. As of March 2017, he’d held the role for 14 years, 228 days, and that’s what landed him the record. A quick scan of his filmography shows Jackman with 10 appearances as Wolverine, from various entries in the “X-Men” franchise to standalone Wolverine movies.

The Aussie actor/singer/dancer shares the world record with his “X-Men” co-star Sir Patrick Stewart, who’s been playing Professor Charles Xavier in the series for the same amount of time. Stewart even filmed a little video message for Jackman to celebrate their new status as world-record holders.

Now that he’ll be immortalized in the 2020 edition of the Guinness Book, Jackman’s next move is a world concert tour this spring and summer. Accompanied by an orchestra and a troupe of dancers, Jackman will perform selections from his musical movies — like “Les Misérables” and “The Greatest Showman” — plus songs from Broadway’s “The Boy From Oz” and other show tunes.

To tide you over until he comes to your town, check out the full video of his surprise world-record presentation, posted to YouTube by ITV’s “This Morning” show:

Congratulations, Hugh!
