Jay-Z and Beyoncé may seem like they have it all: success, fame, money and three beautiful children. But they have struggled with ups and downs in their marriage just like everyone else. On Jan. 27, Jay-Z appeared on CNN in an interview with Van Jones, and he explained why he considers his marriage to Beyoncé so special and why he fought hard to save it in the wake of problems.
Simply put, Jay-Z said Beyoncé is his “soulmate.” He explained:
“It’s my soulmate. It’s the person I love. And you can be in love with someone, you can love someone, and if you haven’t experienced love and you don’t understand it and you don’t have the tools to move forward, you’re going to have complications, period. And you can either choose to address it or you can pretend until it blows up at some point, and for us, we chose to fight for our love, for our family, to give our kids a different outcome, to break that cycle.”
The rapper also explained that he and Beyoncé were never a “celebrity couple,” but rather a “couple who happens to be celebrities.” Watch the candid clip below:
The couple faced rumors of infidelity in their marriage, which appeared to be addressed through their music on both Jay-Z’s album, “4:44,” and on Beyoncé’s album, “Lemonade.”
In the interview, Jay-Z admitted that moving on after “transgressions” in a marriage can be difficult for both partners. When asked if he would be as forgiving of his wife as she seemingly was towards him if she had been the one to be unfaithful, Jay-Z said that he hoped so and called Beyoncé “the strongest woman I know.”
The couple certainly seems to be back on track these days. Seven months ago, they welcomed twins, Sir and Rumi, and the couple recently appeared at the Grammys with their six-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, in tow.
Thank you, Jay-Z and Beyoncé, for being an inspiration to couples to fight for their relationship.
