These Very Cool Transparent Kayaks Let You See Underwater

Crystal Kayak

One company is taking the at-one-with-nature experience of kayaking to a whole new level with their line of patent-pending clear kayaks.

Yes, crystal clear, meaning when you paddle in this transparent kayak, not only will you be surrounded by the beauty above the water, but you’ll be able to marvel at the sights below it.

The Crystal Kayak Company actually launched these kayaks about three years ago, but it was only after they produced this drone video that the product really started getting some attention.

Named the Crystal Explorer, these crystal-clear ergonomic kayaks are made from molded Lexan, a type of polycarbonate which is known to be a strong, tough and extremely durable plastic. And because they’re made with Lexan, the kayaks are also fairly lightweight, coming in at just 47 pounds.

Designed for conditions ranging from breezy days to choppy waters, the Crystal Explorer also features design elements such as high sides, fully adjustable ergonomic seats and an open cockpit.

The frame, seats and inflatable chambers are all removable, allowing for easy stacking, storage and transportation.

“We want it to be perfectly easy to use, whether you’re a beginner or an expert,” Brian Maxfield of Crystal Kayak told Travel + Leisure.

One of these state-of-the-art kayaks will set you back about $1,500, but your purchase will also include two paddles, two seats and two flotation pouches with zippered nylon covers.

If paddling in one of these kayaks sounds like a dream come true but you’re not ready to shell out $1,500, you might be able to rent one on your next vacation.

Crystal Clear Kayaks works with some hotels and rental companies to make rentals available to tourists and hotel guests. Spa Retreat Boutique Hotel in Negril, Jamaica, and Vegas Glass Kayaks in Las Vegas, Nevada, are just two of the places where you can rent one of these awesome kayaks for the day.

While the company is currently only offering this one design of kayak, they hope to eventually introduce additional transparent aquatic toys.
