PetSmart Is Giving Away Free Ice Cream To Dogs This Weekend

Your four-legged friends will thank you!

Summer is in full swing and that means looking for ways to stay cool — and keeping our four-legged friends cool, too. PetSmart is looking to help by offering up a chilly treat to dogs this weekend.

In honor of National Ice Cream Day on July 15, PetSmart is offering free, dog-friendly ice cream at its PetSmart PetsHotel locations across the country on both Saturday, July 14 and Sunday, July 15.

“National Ice Cream Day has been such a big hit with our customers, we decided to make it a weekend-long celebration,” Joanna Zucker, vice president of services at PetSmart said in a press release. “It’s a great way to let your pet get in on the holiday fun and beat the heat with an ice cream treat!”

How To Score Your Pooch A Treat

According to the news release, the frozen treat is customarily offered at the store’s Doggie Day Camp and during overnight stays, but the celebration will include all dogs who visit the store. To get the free four-ounce serving of dog-friendly ice cream, make your way to a PetSmart store near you — just make sure it has PetsHotel facilities. And, of course, don’t forget to bring your pup!

To see if there is a PetSmart PetsHotel location near you, just visit PetSmart’s website. Be sure to check the box for “PetsHotel” when searching.

You Can Always DIY

If you can’t make it to the free ice cream event or don’t have a location near you, no worries — you can make dog-safe ice cream at home! Rover.com offers multiple recipes, or you can make it even easier and purchase this ice cream mix from Amazon and all you’ll need to do is add water. Bonus? It comes in a peanut butter flavor which you probably know by now is a hit with most pooches.

While you’re at it, consider also whipping up a sweet treat for yourself. This Copycat Wendy’s Frosty recipe only has three ingredients and it’s as delicious as you might imagine. Or you can make your own ice cream sandwiches because, really can you ever go wrong with that?
