‘Glass’ hair is a major hairstyle trend right now

You may have noticed a lot celebs are rocking short, sleek and shiny strands on the red carpet and Instagram — and that’s because the “glass hair” look is currently a major hairstyle trend.

Alas, “glass hair” doesn’t have anything to do with actual glass. Instead, it refers to the bluntness of the super-short bob and the high-shine gloss of the strands.

According to a celebrity hairstylist, this futuristic look is a modern take on a 1960s style. “We first saw polish and shine in a glass-like manner popularized by Vidal Sassoon in the ’60s,” New York City-based hairstylist Cash Lawless told Refinery29. “He was achieving immense levels of shine on short geometric cuts. Now, videos have began to go viral and hairstylists started picking up on the trend.”

If you’ve been on the fence about cutting your hair short, these celebrities might just convince you to follow their lead and officially make the chop.

“Pretty Little Liars” actor Lucy Hale first got her blunt cut in late July, but this styling photo she posted to Instagram more recently is the absolute epitome of the “glass hair” trend:

Former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo also chopped her locks into a bob and embraced a straight, shiny look, as you can see from this Instagram post:

Reality TV stars/beauty moguls Kim Kardashian West and Kylie Jenner posed in matching sleek hairstyles on Jenner’s 21st birthday:

Pop singer Selena Gomez showed that the hairstyle works with bangs, too, in this snippet she posted from her “Back To You” music video:

Other people have definitely caught on to this popular hairstyle and been inspired to give it a try, too. Instagram user @rituals_salon_and_spa showed just how pretty a blonde “glass hair” ‘do can be:
