This teenage boy took his mom to prom

Joe Moreno is well aware of the sacrifices his mom had to make after she dropped out of school at the age of 17 to raise him. And ever since he was old enough to know what prom was, he’s been dreaming of taking his mom as his date — considering she never attended her own high school prom. So when the night finally rolled around — Moreno made good on his word and took him mom to prom with him.

He posted about their prom night on Twitter, and the tweet has since gone viral. It’s garnered over 31,000 retweets and been liked over 180,000 times.

“My mom had me at the age of 17 she dropped out of high school to focus on giving me her all. Last night I gave her the prom night she never had,” he wrote on Twitter.

Cue the “awws!”

Moreno told Insider, “I have always wanted to take my mother to prom ever since I first found out what prom was … My mother had me at the age of 17, [so] she decided to drop out of high school. I decided that I would give my mom the one night she never experienced because of her sacrifice.”

When she finally had the chance to go, she was “really emotional and loved how I did that for her,” said Moreno.

As far as how Moreno felt about bringing his mom to prom, he told Parents.com, “I was really glad I was able to create such a memory with my mom.”

This is just one of the sweet prom stories that have come out of prom season so far. A San Francisco 49er football player also recently escorted a fan with Down syndrome to her high school prom — and the photos proved to be absolutely adorable.
