This woman wore her engagement ring for an entire year without realizing it

Getting proposed to is typically a surprise. You might have some inkling that it’s going to happen but, for the most part, you’re totally caught off guard when it happens, right? Well, imagine how surprised this woman—who wore her engagement ring for an entire year without realizing it—was when her boyfriend got down on one knee.

How had he hidden the ring from her all of this time? You see, Terry made his girlfriend Anna a necklace for their one-year anniversary. He crafted it out of Huon Pine and gave it to her as a gift. He had created a hiding place for the ring inside the necklace, placed the engagement ring inside and sealed it up tight.

“I had always loved the idea of giving someone a gift where they didn’t know its true value until years later,” Terry told The Independent. And that’s precisely what he did.

After receiving the necklace, she proceeded to wear it for the next year…until Terry was finally ready to pop the question!

One year later, the two traveled to Smoo Cave in Scotland. Terry knew this would be the place where he finally proposed to Anna.

“I picked Smoo Cave because it was a place we had talked about visiting since we first met, and ‘smoo’ comes from an old Norse word for ‘hiding place,’ so I think I get extra points for that one,” Terry told Huffington Post.

He asked to hold her necklace so he could photograph it on some rocks, and then got down on one knee. As you can imagine, Anna was shocked.

Thankfully, they caught the moment on camera, but Terry also went into further detail with the Huffington Post.

“She stood there with this completely confused and dumbfounded look on her face, and when she finally worked out what had just happened, she yelled, ‘Yes!’ and pounced on me,” he told the publication.

She was, of course, thrilled to be engaged, but also mad to think that she could have misplaced the necklace. “My biggest moment of panic was when we went through airport security the first time. I hadn’t thought about the fact that she might be asked to put it through the X-Ray, which could have very quickly turned into an airport security proposal,” he told The Independent.

But instead, this jewelry trick led to the happy ending he had hoped for!
