Sparkling Wine Advent Calendars Now Exist—And The Countdown To Christmas Just Got So Much More Festive
Celebrate the season with a bit of bubbly every day!
Looking for a fun and boozy way to celebrate the holidays this year — or for the perfect gift for a wine aficionado friend? Look no further than a sparkling wine advent calendar that’s available for the coming season.
The Superstar Sparkling Advent Calendar from British retailer The Pip Stop gives you a miniature 6.7-ounce bottle (or about one glass) of bubbly wine, including white and rosé prosecco, cava, and champagne, for each day of advent. On Dec. 24, the last day of the calendar, there’s even an extra-special bottle of Laurent Perrier Champagne from France to help you kick off your Christmas celebrations.
Unfortunately for Americans, the calendar is only available for shipping in the U.K. as of now and retails for a hefty £125 (about $156).
However, those of us on the other side of the pond do have some other options, so all is not lost!
Last year, grocery retailer Aldi brought a similar wine advent calendar to the U.S. for the first time, and it is expected that they will sell it again in 2019 — and it’s much more affordably priced at $69.99.
As you’ll notice from Instagram user @kimberlyallison24’s photo, each Aldi wine calendar contains 24 miniature bottles of different wines from around the world, including white, red, and sparkling varieties.
Aldi also sold a separate cheese advent calendar in 2018, which made a great pairing option to go with the wine calendar — a genius move, since nothing pairs better with vino than cheese.
There’s no word yet when the Aldi wine advent calendars will launch for 2019, but, when they do, you’ll have to act fast if you want one. Last year, they reportedly dropped around the end of October and the beginning of November and sold out almost immediately — some say within minutes of going on sale. (Although a few wine advent calendars did pop up on eBay afterward.)
Cooking Light reported in late 2018 that some stores received just a few calendars and weren’t able to restock before the holiday, but that Aldi was already making holiday plans for 2019 that hopefully included adding more of these. Last year, the company announced the advent calendar release dates on their blog, so check in if you want to score one of these as soon as they come out.
