Ah, doughnuts. Perhaps not the healthiest choice for breakfast, but no one can deny they are the ultimate comfort food. I mean, really, can you honestly have a bad day if it started with you eating a doughnut?
As amazing as doughnuts are, perhaps it’s time for something more. In what I can only imagine was a “hold my doughnut and watch this” type of moment, Dunkin’ Donuts has combined their signature sweet treat with another beloved fast food favorite: fries.
Yup — doughnuts and fries. Or as Dunkin’ simply calls them, “donut fries.”
Dunkin’ Donuts is bringing their newest creation to stores throughout the country for a limited time beginning Monday, July 2 — just in time for a Fourth of July road trip, y’all!
But what exactly is this sugary concoction? No, it’s not a jelly-filled or powdered sugar French Fry (though I am not opposed to that either…). It’s simply doughnuts cut into strips, served in a fry-like container.
They will not only be easier to take on the go than your standard doughnut, but unlike classic fries, they’re made with “buttery croissant-style donut dough” and tossed in cinnamon sugar, according to Dunkin’ Donuts. (Also, they’re probably not best served with a cheeseburger.) Each order comes with five fries for just $2.
To go with the new fries, Dunkin’ Donuts is also offering a new drink called Brown Sugar Cold Brew. With naturally-flavored brown sugar syrup, the coffee is steeped in cold water for 12 hours, leading to a sweeter flavor from the beans that Dunkin’ says is “reminiscent of dark chocolate.” The Brown Sugar Cold Brew will also be available on July 2.
Dunkin’ Donuts isn’t the only fast food chain to jump on the “fry” bandwagon this year. Taco Bell has fries now, too — but instead of cinnamon sugar, you’ll be dipping theirs in nacho cheese.
