Most people who paint their nails on a semi-regular basis will end up dealing with things like chipped polish or broken nails. And if you’re anything like me, then you’d rather fix your nails yourself before going to the salon and spending big bucks to have them do what you probably could’ve done yourself.
That being said, I’m always looking for the next big nail secret or DIY hack that I can use to try myself and save a little bit of money. Let me just say that this video was definitely what I was looking for.
It provides 20 easy nail hacks found from websites such as Buzzfeed and Tumblr and combines them into a short 4-minute video.
Given that I’ve currently got chipped polish on my nails, I’ll be sharing my 5 favorites of the 20, which are the best tricks for nail polish removal.
1. 0:28 – DIY Polish Remover Jar
This hack is especially beneficial to those who like to soak their nails to remove the polish (versus removing with a cotton ball or Q-Tip).
Using a small mason jar, a kitchen sponge and scissors, you’ll have an instant way to soak your nails exactly like they do at the salon – in minutes.
2. 1:53 – Remove Metallic Polish With Tape
If you’ve ever had metallic gold or silver polish on your nails, then you know the struggle of removing it and having it appear all over your fingers instead.
This simple hack involves putting pieces of tape on the parts of your finger that have hard-to-remove polish on them. The stickiness of the tape will pull the polish right off.
3. 2:38 – Remove Nail Stickers With A Floss Picker
Nail sticker wraps can be a great alternative to nail polish – until it’s time to remove them. The wraps have stuck to your nail, making it very difficult to pull them off.
This hack suggests soaking your nails in water and removing the sticker wrap with a floss picker. Soak in water, remove as much as possible with the picker, then repeat until the sticker is gone.
4. 2:51 – Remove Polish With More Polish
If you run out of polish remover but want your nails to be clear, this hack suggests putting another fresh coat of clear or solid polish over your nails. Then, while the new polish is still wet, use a cotton ball to take all of the polish off at once.
5. 3:22 – Use Felt To Remove Polish
When you’ve got nail polish that is hard to remove, such as metallic or glitter polish, try this hack that suggests using a light-colored felt square to remove the polish. Just put some remover on the felt and take off the polish as normal.
The texture of the felt will get the hard-to-remove polish to come off faster, and its light color will not bleed onto your nail.
