Here’s how to make the easiest soft pretzel bites at home
Pretzel bites are such a fun, simple treat that please guests of all ages, whether you are having your kid’s little pals over for a movie night or you are hosting book club.
But frozen pretzels can be hit or miss. If you want to be the hostess with the mostess, it’s simple to make your own pretzel bites with just a few ingredients.
1. Prepare The Dough
Start with either frozen dinner roll dough or refrigerated biscuit dough. If you are using frozen dough, let it come to room temperature on your counter. But be sure to cover them with plastic wrap so they don’t dry out. If you are using refrigerated biscuit dough, you can skip the defrosting step.
(Or, if you prefer to make them totally from scratch without using pre-made dough, check out this recipe from The Slow-Roasted Italian.)
2. Form Your Bites
Now, it’s time to form the dough into the pretzel bites.
Roll one roll or biscuit’s worth of dough into a square and cut the dough into equal-sized pieces (you should get four to five pretzel bites from each dough portion). Then roll the dough into a pretzel bite shape.
3. Boil ‘Em Up
This next step is the key to getting chewy, delicious pretzel bites, so don’t skip it.
You need to bring a big pot of water to a boil, then add some baking soda. Reduce the heat to a simmer. Now carefully place the bites in the baking soda and water mixture and let cook for one minute.

4. Add Egg Wash And Salt
Gently remove the pretzel bites from the water with a slotted spoon and place on a prepared pan (such as a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and lightly sprayed with Pam).
Beat a large egg in a bowl, then brush each pretzel bite with the egg wash. Sprinkle with coarse salt before baking.
5. Mix Up Your Dipping Sauce
Serve with a trio of mustards or warm cheese sauce. It’s easy to make your own cheese dipping sauce. Check out this recipe for spicy beer cheese dip from JustPutzing:
