Katherine Heigl Shares Workouts That Helped Her Lose The Baby Weight
Lots of moms are eager to lose the “baby weight” right away after giving birth, but it can take women months to get back into those pre-baby jeans. As Laura Riley, MD, director of Labor and Delivery at Massachusetts General Hospital and author of “You & Your Baby: Pregnancy,” told U.S. News & World Reports, “It took you nine months to put the weight on, it’s going to take you some time to take the weight off.”
That is true even if you’re a celebrity and have access to the best trainers and nutritionists in the world. Just take a look at mom-of-three Katherine Heigl. The actress recently took to her Instagram page to share before-and-after pictures of her weight loss journey following the birth of her son, Joshua Jr., to whom she gave birth in December 2016. (She has two adopted children, Naleigh and Adalaide, with her husband, musician Josh Kelley, as well.)
Heigl shared three photos side-by-side of her weight loss journey:
As she explained in her Instagram post, Heigl found herself very busy after the birth of her son. She wanted to work on her body and improve her strength and tone, but between kids and her career, it took a while before she had the time and energy to wholly focus on her fitness goals.
She credited a weight loss app called Sweat , which offers a variety of multiple trainers and programs to suit every woman’s individual needs and goals, to help her lose the baby weight. Different workouts include high-intensity plyometric training, vinyasa-style resistance flows and resistance workouts designed to increase core strength, according to the app’s page in the iTunes store.
As for Heigl, she said she got maximum results from the BBG workouts (short for Bikini Body Guide). These 28-minute exercises with personal trainer Kayla Itsines helped Heigl to increase her fitness and strength … not to mention find her ab muscles again!
Heigl explained that she was inspired to try the BBG workouts after seeing the awesome results that mom and blogger Rach Parcell got from the program. It’s easy to see why Parcell’s pictures impressed her!
We’re glad Heigl found a healthy workout plan that worked for her within her busy schedule. Remember, though, experts say that losing the baby weight takes time, and you should listen to your body. When you are taking care of an infant, you might not have the energy or motivation for a sweat session, and that’s okay. It’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon … even for Hollywood celebs!
