Congratulations are in order for Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, who welcomed a baby boy on Feb. 9!

Princess Eugenie is the youngest of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah, Duchess of York’s two daughters. The new baby boy is the first child of the princess and her husband. The newborn royal is the first grandchild for Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, and Queen Elizabeth’s ninth great-grandchild.

According to the official announcement on the Royal Household website, the baby’s grandparents and great-grandparents are pleased with the news.

“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Duke of York, Sarah, Duchess of York, and Mr. and Mrs. George Brooksbank have been informed and are delighted with the news,” the statement reads.

Princess Eugenie posted a single close-up photo on Instagram of a tiny hand holding her finger, with what is presumably Brooksbank’s hand gently circling the baby’s wrist. We’re looking forward to seeing baby pictures eventually!

The Royal Family proclaimed the good news on Twitter as well.

“Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie was safely delivered of a son today, 9th February 2021, at 0855hrs at The Portland Hospital. Jack Brooksbank was present,” tweeted the official account. “The baby weighs 8lbs 1oz.”

So far, no announcement of the baby’s name has been made, but it is traditional for royals to delay making their newborn’s names public. It is also customary for royals to name their children after other family members, so there has been a great deal of speculation on what the little one will be called. Some experts are betting on Philip, after Eugenie’s grandfather Prince Philip, while others are predicting he’ll be named James.

What we do know is that the baby won’t be called Prince. While he is royal, the baby won’t have a royal title unless his great grandmother gives him one.

“Princess Eugenie’s children will not have titles unless the Queen decides to bestow an earldom on Jack Brooksbank,” Carolyn Harris, royal historian and author of “Raising Royalty,” told Town & Country, adding that there is no precedent for Her Royal Highness to do so.

“Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well,” according to the press release.
