This incredible mama gave birth to 3 sets of twins in 9 minutes
Giving birth is always a miracle, but giving birth to six babies at once — that’s an extremely rare event indeed. According to The Woman’s Hospital of Texas, it’s a one in 4.7 billion chance, to be exact. But, on March 15, the Houston hospital staff helped Thelma Chiaka deliver three sets of twins in just nine minutes.
According to a press release from the hospital, Chiaka delivered two sets of twin boys and one set of twin girls between 4:50 and 4:59 a.m. that day. Each of the babies weighed between 1 pound, 12 ounces and 2 pounds, 14 ounces. The mom is doing well, and all of the babies are also in stable condition. They will continue to receive care in the neonatal intensive care unit, the hospital said.
As far as naming the little ones, the latest update is that the twin girls are Zina and Zuriel. No word on the boys’ names yet, however.
The hospital first announced the incredible delivery on their Facebook page, noting that the team of doctors felt “honored” to welcome Chiaka’s little babies — all six of them:
Despite the incredibly rare chance that someone will give birth to sextuplets, this happens more than you might think. According to VeryWell Family, there have been a total of 179 recorded sextuplet births since 2007.
Back in December 2017, Courtney and Eric Waldrop became a family of 11 after Courtney gave birth to six babies, who joined the couple’s three sons.
Each of the babies weighed less than three pounds at birth. In total, the Waldrops welcomed three boys and three girls. Fortunately, they were expecting it, as evidenced by the huge, over-the-top gender reveal party they held. Thankfully, that occasion was caught on video.
You can see the moment that the parents of three boys find out they’ll be welcoming three girls and three more little guys! The video was posted on the Inside Edition YouTube channel:
You can keep up with the Waldrop family via their Facebook page, where the parents frequently post updates about their nine children. The most recent update? The last of the sextuplets just began walking!
So now, all six of the latest additions to the family are on the move. Check out the video of the little one toddling around:
Here’s to hoping we get to see even more updates from both families in the future — because who wouldn’t want to watch adorable sets of six siblings grow up together? It just doesn’t get cuter than that!
Wishing all the best to these mamas and their families!
