A hospital dressed up its newborn babies to look like pickles and they’re completely adorable

When a hospital in Cincinnati gave out Baby Shark onesies to babies born during Shark Week, we didn’t think maternity wards could get any cuter. But on Monday, July 22, four newborn babies at the UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, were dressed up in homemade blankets and hats that made them look like every stereotypical pregnant mom’s favorite food: pickles.

A press release on the hospital’s website reads that they planned to “bring dill-light to its nursery and celebrate Picklesburgh by costuming newborns as their mother’s favorite pregnancy craving.”

Personally, I craved ALL foods when pregnant, but I can’t deny that these tiny tots — also wearing customized onesies that read “special dill-ivery” — look gosh-darn adorable.

Here’s the hospital’s Facebook post featuring multiple images of the adorable pickle-clad infants:

Each outfit, knitted by a nurse who works at the hospital, was created in celebration of the city’s annual Picklesburgh festival, which offers attendees a plethora of pickled food and pickle-themed activities.

According to Today, the festival has been held for four years and is so popular that, this year, organizers had to double the physical space reserved for vendors, demonstrators and more.

Why pickles? Pittsburgh is actually known for pickles and other pickled foods. The Kraft Heinz Company was founded in the city in the late 1800s and one of their headquarters is still based there. Perhaps because of the influence of Heinz in the area, a number of unique pickled-related food products have since sprouted up there, including pickle-flavored cotton candy, pickle sorbet and pickle soda.

We would find it odd if we ourselves hadn’t already blogged about countless pickle-flavored food products here on Simplemost. Remember this pickle split ice cream sundae? Pickle popsicles? The pickle-flavored popcorn at Trader Joe’s?

Anyway. This isn’t the first time the UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital has been in the news for one of its themed nursery events. Last year, they dressed newborns up in ugly Christmas sweaters, and they enjoy celebrating other holidays and special events in a similar fashion.

“We have patients hoping they deliver during one of our nursery photo shoots!” hospital spokeswoman Amy Charley told Today.

What do you think? Would you try to time your delivery with a themed photoshoot?
