We’re only a few months away from the next Star Wars movie hitting theaters but the production of “Solo: A Star Wars Story” has been anything but smooth.
Between director changes and rumors that the lead actor was having a hard time performing, there has been a great disturbance in the force for fans of the sci-fi series. So it was a relief for many to see a 45-second teaser of “Solo” debut during the Super Bowl. But things got even better when a full-length trailer debuted on Monday. Here it is:
As with any trailer for a big movie, this clip is going to be dissected over and over again. It’s been viewed more than 8 million times on YouTube already, and the internet has opinions.
The thing most people seem to be excited about is Donald Glover’s take on young Lando Calrissian. Because, I mean, look at him.
The beard. The coat. The #SWAG. I would follow this man anywhere.
There were other cool bits and pieces in the trailer. “Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke is apparently taking a break from commanding dragons in Westeros to wear an awesome cape in the Star Wars universe.
It also had a bit of an “Oceans Eleven”-in-space vibe, as Woody Harrelson’s character says he’s putting together a team that might involve Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge as a robot, and a monkey thing. Oh, and of course, Chewbacca.
But ultimately, the part of “Solo” that has people the most concerned is, well, Solo. Actor Alden Ehrenreich will be tasked with portraying one of the most iconic characters of all time in his first solo adventure (pun intended). Ehrenreich’s performance is what will likely determine this movie’s success.
So how did he do in the trailer?
I’ll let you decide for yourself. Yes, there was that awkward smirk/frown thing, but he looks the part and towards the end of the trailer Solo’s trademark cool is on display, along with a possible shot at the people who were so worried about this movie.
“Thought we were in trouble for a second,” Solo says. “But it’s fine, we’re fine.”
Is it fine though? Because did I mention the last thing we see in the trailer is a GIANT SPACE OCTOPUS?!
Can I buy tickets yet?
