Burger King: How To Get A Whopper For A Penny
We've got dinner covered!
With all of the holiday shopping you’re likely doing these days, the more ways you can save some cash, the better. And Burger King totally gets it. That’s why it’s offering you the chance to score a Whopper sandwich for just a penny.
This deal is incredibly good — so much so that Burger King’s taking the time to rub it in McDonald’s face a little bit. Sorry, McDonald’s. They did beat you to the punch by offering a deal this amazing.
The fast-food chain may be practically giving away burgers, but they’re going to make you earn this meal. In order to take advantage of the 1 cent limited time offer, you have to first download the Burger King app.
OK. So far, so good, right? But here’s where it gets interesting. Once you’ve downloaded the app, you have to make sure you’re within 600 feet of a McDonald’s in order to place your order for the low-priced Whopper.
It’s all part of their campaign called the Whopper Detour with which they, well, stick it to their main competitor.
They made this funny video of people trying to order Whoppers while in the McDonald’s drive-thru to promote the savings opportunity:
Yowza! Burger King’s showing no mercy to its competitor, but it’s a great offer for its customers. You may not have ever imagined you’d get in on a rivalry between two fast food chains, but for a 1 cent Whopper, you may find that your devotion knows no bounds.
Besides, it’s all in good fun. It’s also oddly reminiscent of the time IHOP changed its name to “IHOB” and Burger King, Wendy’s and others joined in on poking fun at the establishment known for its pancakes — or burgers? Which is it?
At the time, Burger King changed its name to “Pancake King” online, as Twitter user @BillFoxLA pointed out:

So, Burger King’s no stranger to this type of joking — uhh, marketing, rather.
If you’d like to play along with the prank on McDonald’s, you’ve reportedly got until Dec. 12 to do so while enjoying a Whopper for just a penny.
