Mason jar-lovers, this craft is for you! It’s October, which means Halloween is just around the corner, and you’ll want to light up your house with some spooky scenes this holiday season. Luckily, you can make some cool lanterns on the cheap using a mason jar, paint, paint markers and some candles.
Use acrylic or spray paint to coat the inside of your Mason jar. If you want a uniform look, choose a traditional Halloween orange—or mix it up and use a few different colors, as pictured, like a spooky red and green.
The best part is, if you don’t trust yourself to draw a Halloween scene on the front of the jar, you can use these printable templates from Wholesale Party Supplies to make your very own spooky luminary. Simply print the templates, then insert them inside the jar (after the paint has dried) and trace the patterns with a fine-tip paint pen on the outside. Use a broad-tip paint pen to fill in the inside of the scene once you’ve traced the outside.
You can use recycled mason jars from home or buy your own from the dollar store for this fun, kid-friendly project, but make sure whichever jars you choose have a flat face without any bumps. And don’t forget to protect your surfaces when painting the interior of the jar, especially if using spray paint.
